Day 4: Learning from the best – advice recommended for all aspiring journalists

Our return to the office this morning was heralded by the introduction of Marcus, another work experience student, who had been working at The Sun-Herald. I say working, but in reality he had been at a photo shoot with Jack Vidgen, dream job!. Crushingly, Marcus had not received an autograph.

Linda and I spent the day at the ICAC again, but not before we managed to find time to read the article Kate McClymont had filed the day before, in her lunch break, on her iPhone.

The best advice Kate gave us for being a great journalist was to, “be multi-talented”, something she manages very well.  For example, photo journalism is just as important as written journalism - Kate's ability to take photos with her iPhone, as well as write a successful fact-filled article that required limited editing demonstrated that skill. As you can see by the photos accompanying this blog, (or lack of), I possibly need to work on that ability.
